Living on the street: In many disadvantaged countries, orphans are left to fend for themselves. Many end up living on the street. Daily begging for food and looking for a dry place to sleep is their lot in life. All their earthly possessions are in bags they carry with them.
Human Trafficking: With no one to protect them, orphans are preyed upon by unscrupulous slave traders. These peddlers of human flesh entice street orphans with promises of food and shelter into coming with them. Many remain trapped because they have no place else to go.
They’re Disposable: Being an orphan is a stigma in many societies. They are unjustly seen as pariahs and unworthy of compassion; their value is that of trash. Many orphans are left on the garbage dump of life, tossed away because no one values them, not even themselves.
Despair of living: Her mother and father are dead. No family to care for her. Each day is a struggle to survive, hiding from the bad men wanting to take her, picking through the garbage to find something to eat. She doesn’t know if living is worth the struggle with no hope in sight.
Something to smile about: For these two orphans, life is much better. They were rescued and placed into one of our church orphan homes. Now they have a safe place to live, with people who love them and care for them. Life is getting back to normal.
Thank you for this food. Amen: We may take for granted the food we eat, but she doesn’t. Not long ago, before she came to live in one of our church orphan homes, eating everyday was never guaranteed. As an orphan on her own, she ate maybe once every couple days.
Like peas in a pod: For these two orphans, living in one of our church orphan homes means getting a new family and a new sister to play with; even if it means sharing everything with her.
Doing dishes is a delight: Doing chores is a part of daily life for these orphans living in a church orphan home. Living life together as a family, facing life’s challenges and celebrating every victory is joyous and wonderful.
